The Paryaya denotes the change of authority to manage the Sri Krishna Matha and exclusive rights to worship Lord Krishna in the over 800-year-old Sri Krishna Math from one matha to another among the eight mathas.
Udupi paryaya means transition or alternation and is an important event and festival in South Karnataka. Paryaya celebrations take place once in two years. The Pooja and administration of Udupi Shri krishna Math temple is distributed among the Swamiji of Ashta Math established by Dvaita Philosopher Shri Madhwacharya.

Pejavar Swamiji has said after ascending the Paryaya Peetha, he would undertake several works, including adopting a village, building houses for the poor, and cleaning Car Street and surrounding areas in Udupi.A remote village deprived from development will be chosen for the same. The basic facilities will be extended to the village for the overall development.
He also informed that religious texts like the Bhagavad Gita and the Puranas will be translated into various languages so that they would be understood by all.
Stressing on the need for more facilities for pilgrims to Udupi, he said, “Pilgrims to Udupi have increased over the years, and there is a need for more guest houses. A land belonging to the Math will be used to build guest houses for pilgrims.”
He further said that and educational institute will be built at Pajaka, the birthplace of Sri Madhwacharya, and there are also plans to provide free education for the poor.
An advance multi-storied parking space costing 7 crores will be constructed to benefit the devotees covering the basic facilities. The construction of guest’ houses, auditorium, library having religious scriptures and medical centre costing 6 crores will be implemented in Shree Krishna Math premises.“Society centered programmes will be implemented during 2 years of Paryaya. Permission will be sought from the government to initiate developmental programmes, if the government approves the proposal the Math will develop the village”. “The programmes costing 50 lacs are implemented and also basic facilities are extended to the Naxal affected areas”.
