The Pejawar Mutt performed the ‘Kattige Muhurta’, the third of the preliminaries before the next Paryaya festival, here on8AM, August 21st 2015.The ritual of ‘Kattige Muhurtha’ (storing firewood) was performed, as the third phase of preparation for the biennial Paryaya at Sri Krishna Mutt, on behalf of incoming Paryaya seer Sri Pejawar Mutt Pontiff Sri Sri  Vishwestheertha Swamiji here on Friday, as the seer is in Bengaluru for ‘Chaturmasyam’.

Symbolically, devotees carry loads of firewood and come in a procession around the main Car Street to the backyard of Sri Krishna Mutt and accumulate the firewood in a artistic manner like chariot. The wood will be utilized during the next two years of Paryaya period.

Seven bundles of firewood were placed at the spot earmarked for them by the side of Madhwa Sarovar and prayers were offered.

Batha Muhurtha is performed after Kattige Muhurtha. Batha (dried paddy) is stored for meeting future requirements within premises of Sri Krishna Matha.

Paryaya is a religious ritual which takes place every alternate year in Krishna Matha (Krishna Temple) of Udupi. The pooja and administration of Krishna Matha is distributed among the Swamijis of Ashta Matha's established by Dvaita philosopher Sri Madhvacharya.

Each swamiji of every matha gets chance to perform puja to Udupi Sri Krishna by rotation for a period of two years.

During paryaya, the puja and administration of Krishna Matha is handed over from Swamiji of one of Ashta Matha to the Swamiji of another Ashta Matha.

It takes place every two years in even numbered years. On 18 January 2014, the pooja and administration was handed over to Kaniyoor Mutt's Vidhyavallabhatirtha Swamiji from Sodhe Mutt's Vishwavallabhatirtha Swamiji.

Earlier to Kattige Muhurtha, the incoming Pejawar seer who is ascending ‘Paryaya Peeta’ to take charge of the temple administration and Sri Krishna Pooja rights for two years from the outgoing Paryaya Kaniyur mutt seer Sri Vidyavallabhatheertha Swami, had performed ‘Bale Muhurtham’ (planting of Banana saplings) and ‘Akki Muhurtham’ (storing of rice).  The preparatory process of main Paryaya festival will be culminated with the fourth and final phase preparation of ‘Bhattha Muhurtha’ (storing of paddy) which will be held during Dec this year.
